Who is iDance?
iDance.net is a product of creative invention, an active manifestation brought about by conscious choice; the initial idea from one, the vision and energy from another, the final product a combination of three. iDance.net is created by dancers, techno geeks, and other labels that do ill justice of description. This business was started by myself, David Braverman. Originally born in NY, I was relocated to Asheville, NC at the age of 5 by my mother because of her wish for a change. I desired to actualize an organization that would create an income for myself, foster the development of employees that are empowered, respected, and well enabled, and at the same time help to spread a powerful and expressive art form. While dance is at its core simply the phenomenon of people moving to music, many acknowledge that there is the occasional hint at something more. At times one can simultaneously touch the divine and also have a childish ‘I am the man’ grin on his face. It’s about touching and being touched in a society that sues its teachers over a hug. We, as human beings need that touch, that physical expression of love, companionship, even if its for only two minutes and forty three seconds.
I started this company in October of 2004 after I became frustrated with the limited selection and low quality of online dance clips. Even though video can never be a complete substitute to a live teacher it can be a useful tool in the entire process of learning how to be a more subtle dancer. With video you can go at your own pace, watching over and over until that last bit of information seeps into your consciousness. Sometimes I can actually hear that “click” of understanding, that last bit of the puzzle, after the student (often myself) has been slowly guided toward the final motion as the teacher increases the subtly of the instruction. That “click” is a very interesting moment, one that at times can be very frustrating and illusive to obtain. This is where video can help, by allowing the student to watch until they are satisfied. I hope that you receive more then just a new move, or a more fancy way of moving your limbs, when you download a clip. There is nothing wrong or misguided if that is what you are looking for, but if you really look closely there is something else waiting.
Since you will be able to download the video clips onto your hard drive with no strings attached, please don’t burn them onto a CD for a friend. iDance.net is a small business with a portion of the money going to the teachers that you love and admire. I have worked very hard to bring you access to moves from instructors from all over the world and I ask that you please pay for this unique opportunity instead of stealing it. Thanks, and enjoy your moves from iDance.net!!
